The Hurt Business, featuring Bobby Lashley, MVP, Cedric Alexander, and Shelton Benjamin, left an indelible mark on WWE, elevating each member’s career and amassing a devoted fanbase. Despite their success, the faction disbanded in 2021, much to the disappointment of fans. However, rumors are now swirling that the group might be reforming in AEW following the anticipated departures of Bobby Lashley and MVP from WWE.
Roman Reigns himself felt the faction’s breakup was premature, a sentiment echoed by Bobby Lashley, who described the disbandment as something that “hurt his heart.” Many fans shared this disappointment, especially after MVP recently claimed that Triple H refused to revive The Hurt Business, sparking considerable controversy.
Reports have emerged suggesting that Bobby Lashley’s WWE contract is set to expire soon, and he has been removed from the company’s internal roster list, indicating he might be leaving the company shortly. Rumors also suggest MVP will follow suit.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that Lashley and MVP are expected to leave WWE and potentially reunite with Shelton Benjamin to reform The Hurt Business in AEW. Although their contracts have not yet expired, WWE seems to be preparing for their departure and the possibility of revamping the faction.
The use of “The Hurt Business” name in AEW will depend on ownership rights, and Tony Khan will ultimately decide the group’s future. While nothing is confirmed, the potential reunion of The Hurt Business remains a hot topic as Lashley and MVP are set to become free agents soon.
“I know there is talk of them trying to get into AEW. Technically, nobody can talk to them because their contracts haven’t expired, but WWE is under the assumption they are leaving and plan to revamp The Hurt Business,” Meltzer stated. “Whether they’ll use that name depends on ownership rights. They want Shelton Benjamin, who’s also a free agent, to join them. This is something Tony Khan will have to decide, but it’s definitely under consideration. It’s not a done deal, but it’s alive. As of now, Bobby Lashley and MVP will be gone from WWE when their contracts expire soon.”
Only time will tell if The Hurt Business will reform in AEW this year. Fans are eager to see the faction back in the spotlight, given how abruptly they were disbanded in the past.
