Music plays a crucial role in professional wrestling, from theme songs for individual wrestlers to those for entire shows, enhancing the overall experience. AEW Collision had a strong theme song for many of its episodes, but it was changed during the July 20th episode. The reason for this change has now been revealed.
For the July 20th episode of AEW Collision, the show debuted a new opening theme song, moving away from Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” which had been featured since the show’s launch in June 2023. The replacement is an in-house creation rather than a licensed track.
Unsurprisingly, quite a few fans were upset over the dramatic change since they genuinely enjoyed Elton John’s song. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed the change.
Meltzer reports that AEW Collision’s switch from Elton John’s song to a new in-house track is part of broader cost-saving measures. With production cutbacks being made, the decision to replace the licensed song with a more budget-friendly option reflects these financial adjustments.
”Regarding AEW Collision’s previous theme, there’s a lot of cutbacks being made in production. AEW replaced the Elton John song and put their own new song in place, and obviously that’s a cost-saving thing.”
AEW’s music composer even addressed the change as well. Music is highly subjective, and it’s natural for people to have differing opinions on songs. This holds true for the new AEW Collision theme song as well. While not everyone may prefer it, the song is set to remain, and over time, fans are likely to come to accept it.
