WWE has seen several notable names come through the company. Freddie Prinze Jr., best known for his Hollywood roles, also held spot on the writing team for a while. According to the Scooby-Doo star, John Cena never wanted him there.

WWE Superstar John Cena has had a Hall of Fame-worthy career, but former WWE writer and Hollywood star Freddie Prinze Jr. recently spoke about his complex relationship with Cena. It seems the Greatest of All Time never wanted him in the company.

Freddie and Cena worked together during the PG era. While Freddie was part of the creative staff, writing weekly shows and premium live events, Cena was the biggest star in WWE, carrying the company through that era.

During a recent episode of Wrestling with Freddie, the former writer recalled his first meeting with The Cenation Leader. He mentioned that John Cena initially ignored him, but later, when Cena did speak to him, it was to taunt him about his credentials landing him a job in WWE.

“When I got there, he did not want me there. At all. And I remember the first time I got there, I was super polite, put my hand out to shake his hand, and he walked right past and didn’t even acknowledge me. I think somebody said something because a few minutes later, he came up to me and he goes, ‘Hey, I’m John,’ and he put his hand out, and I shook his hand. I go, ‘Hey, I’m Freddie. Nice to meet you,’ and he goes, ‘I guess they let anybody work here,’ words to that effect.”

Freddie Prinze Jr. decided to leave WWE in February 2009 despite his passion for the wrestling business. He wanted a better work/life balance, which WWE did not provide. So, he gave Vince McMahon his two-weeks notice, wanting to be a better father. Although Stephanie McMahon expressed disappointment, revealing they were about to make him the head writer for SmackDown, Freddie stood firm in his decision, left WWE, and never looked back.

John Cena has since taken over Hollywood and has retracted some statements he once made about The Rock leaving WWE for Tinseltown. It will be interesting to see if Cena and Prinze Jr.’s paths ever cross outside WWE, and whether they would have a different interaction this time around.

What’s your take on Freddie Prinze Jr. never getting on John Cena’s good side? Do you think he would be a better fit for WWE nowadays? Let us know in the comments!
