Professional wrestling has a lot of emphasis on music, whether it’s the theme song for a professional wrestler or a show, music plays a huge role in elevating them. AEW Collision had a solid theme song for many but they changed the theme during the July 20th episode and now an AEW composer has addressed fan outrage over the change.
AEW Collision introduced a new opening theme song for the July 20th episode, replacing Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” which had been used since the show’s debut in June 2023. The new theme was an in-house creation rather than a licensed track.
Unsurprisingly, there was a lot of outrage over the change, as fans simply loved Elton John’s song. AEW’s music producer Mikey Rukus took to Twitter and addressed the change, acknowledging that the new theme might not be universally appreciated.
Rukus noted that while there might be no comparison to Elton John’s iconic song, the shift to a different style with a college/gogo cadence was intentional. Rukus expressed satisfaction with the new theme and reassured fans that it would remain in use.
”Hey guys. Its ok. I knew it would be universally hated. Theres no such thing as an upgrade from Elton. Change is inevitable. We tried something different with the college/gogo cadence. I knew many would t get it. Again, it’s ok. I’m happy with it, my team is happy with it. It’s not changing. 🫡”
Music is truly subjective and not everyone can like the same kind of song all the time and that is simply the case with the new AEW Collision theme song as well. Regardless, the song is here to stay and fans will ultimately accept it.
