WWE Superstars have had many opportunities over the years, with some using WWE as a springboard to Playboy. In fact, WWE was once in talks to buy Playboy as well. During the Attitude Era, several stars appeared in Playboy, earning a nice paycheck, but Trish Stratus turned down the offer.
The WWE women who posed for Playboy included Ashley Massaro, Chyna, Candice Michelle, Maria Kanellis, Maryse, Torrie Wilson, and Christy Hemme. Those magazines sold quickly, but Trish Stratus never graced the pages of Playboy.
During an interview with Inside The Ropes, WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus explained why she declined offers to pose nude in Playboy. Despite multiple requests from the magazine, she turned them down.
“This whole sexy thing is not really my thing, believe it or not. They asked me a number of times, and I just declined. The sexy thing is not necessarily natural for me. I’m very tomboyish. I look back at some of my interviews, and they would ask, ‘What’s your favorite lingerie?’ and I’d say, ‘I wear boxer shorts and a tank top. How about that?’”
“Pulling off the sexy image was hard enough for me, but being naked was a definite no. I’m here to be a wrestler. I wanted to be the best female wrestler ever.”
WWE has since moved on from their partnership with Playboy. Playboy has also changed its strategy since Hugh Hefner’s passing. While it’s unlikely Hefner will make it into the WWE Hall of Fame’s celebrity wing, at least we know they tried to get Trish Stratus, but it wasn’t her thing.
Trish Stratus has returned to the ring a few times since her retirement. It remains to be seen what’s next for her, but a recent backstage encounter with Tiffany Stratton at Money in the Bank in Toronto could lead to a future storyline. Trish is still in great shape and impressed fans with her recent performances.
