MJF turned heel earlier this year and has been on an absolute tear since then, even going so far as to win the AEW International Title this week on Dynamite. In light of his title win, it appears he is set to defend the title on an upcoming episode of CMLL Viernes Espectacular.

AEW Dynamite’s landmark 250th episode kicked off with a high-stakes match between MJF and Will Ospreay for the International Championship. In the closing moments, Ospreay’s hesitation proved costly, allowing MJF to capitalize by using his Dynamite Diamond ring to secure dramatic victory just as time ran out, crowning him the new champion.

At the CMLL Viernes Espectacular event on July 19th, AEW International Champion MJF made a video appearance while soaking in a bathtub. He revealed that he would be defending the AEW International Championship at the CMLL Viernes Espectacular event on August 2nd.

In his message, the Salt of the Earth mocked the Mexican fans, calling them “masked morons,” and went on to state that he was from the only country that mattered— the United States.

MJF’s opponent for the show was not announced, but that is likely to be rectified soon enough. Regardless, we will have to wait and see how the AEW International Champion will fare in his first title defense.
