WWE’s SummerSlam event is coming to fans on August 3 from Cleveland. The biggest party of the summer is expected to attract a ton of attention, and one huge name from Japanese pro wrestling will also be there, much to the surprise of fans.

Naomichi Marufuji is set to attend SummerSlam. Pro Wrestling NOAH announced on Saturday that Marufuji will be present on August 6 at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Ohio. This follows his match against WWE’s AJ Styles at NOAH Destination last weekend, where Styles secured the victory with a Styles Clash.

Naomichi Marufuji has a notable record in Japanese pro wrestling. In New Japan Pro-Wrestling, the 44-year-old has won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship once and the Super J-Cup in 2009. He also received the Tag Team Best Bout award in 2003 with Kotaro Suzuki for their match against Jyushin Thunder Liger and Koji Kanemoto.

In Pro Wrestling Noah, Marufuji is a four-time GHC Heavyweight Champion and a nine-time GHC Tag Team Champion. He also held the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship once and the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship twice. Those are just a few of his accolades.

WWE has also been working with GCW, which has a Bloodsport event featuring WWE talent next weekend. Moreover, NXT wrestlers will appear at Saturday’s TNA Slammiversary event, with the No Quarter Catch Crew facing The Rascalz, who debuted as a trio on Tuesday’s NXT.

Recently, NOAH and WWE have been exchanging talent. In addition to Styles’ appearance, NXT’s Tavion Heights and Josh Briggs will participate in the N1 Victory tournament starting next month. WWE has previously sent KENTA and Shinsuke Nakamura for special appearances as well over the years.

We will have to see how things pan out in this situation. WWE has been working on partnerships with Japanese companies for a while, but they have historically been unable to break into that portion of the pro wrestling world. It appears that they may be getting a bit closer to that becoming a reality.
