AEW has been teasing the debut of a new character, and Hologram made his first appearance during the July 20 episode of AEW Collision. He had a nice showing, and was able to start his in-ring career in AEW with a win.
Tony Khan had warned fans not to get over-excited, clarifying that it wasn’t another signing on the level of Will Ospreay, so it wasn’t assumed to be Ricochet. Tony also made it clear that he was not behind the vignettes.
Hologram’s true identity was already revealed as former AAA star Aramis. He will debut under a new persona, as the deal was finalized after AAA was unable to re-sign him.
AEW put significant effort into Hologram’s presentation, aiming to be “technologically ambitious” with this gimmick. The vignettes leading up to his arrival certainly gave that impression.
The masked luchador made his way to the ring wearing a bright green vest, with blue lights and plenty of smoke around. The 1,200 fans in the building enjoyed the special light show. His opponent that night was Gringo Loco, who provided a great opportunity for Hologram to showcase his skills.
We’ll have to see how Hologram fits into the AEW landscape. This addition means Tony Khan has another talent on his roster, which has grown substantially over the years.
What’s your take on this new AEW star? Do you think he will break into the main event scene? Do you think Tony Khan is doing a great job booking AEW? Let us know in the comments!
