WWE NXT recently announced the return of their next special event, The Great American Bash. Initially, during the Heatwave PLE, it was revealed that the 2024 Great American Bash would air on Syfy on Tuesday, August 6.
However, on the July 17 edition of WWE NXT, commentator Vic Joseph, the Great American Bash will now be broadcast as a two-week special, starting Tuesday, July 30, and continuing on the previously announced date, August 6.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was reported that WWE decided to expand the Great American Bash from one week to two in an effort to keep the television ratings falling on both specified dates due to the Olympics.
“In an effort to keep ratings from falling too much on 7/30 and 8/6 when NXT is on Syfy due to the Olympics, they’ve expanded the themed Great American Bash from one week to two weeks.”
Having been a part of WWE’s pay-per-view lineup for many years, The Great American Bash became an annual event for NXT in July 2020. From 2020 to 2022, it aired as special episodes of NXT and transitioned to a live-streaming event in 2023.
This move to Syfy aims to attract a broader audience than its usual home on the USA Network. Moreover, with the show now becoming a two-week extravaganza, it will be interesting to see it perform on television with the Olympic Games taking centre stage.
