Toni Storm has brought her character to a whole new level for well over the year now thanks to her ‘Timeless’ gimmick and now Tony Khan has credited a very unexpected name for Storm and Mariah May’s storyline.

“Timeless” Toni Storm has received widespread acclaim for her character work, particularly in her intricate on-screen relationship with Mariah May. Things took a dramatic turn when May betrayed Toni Storm on last week’s episode of Dynamite, leading her a bloody mess.

While speaking in a conversation with Sports Illustrated, AEW President Tony Khan explained the creative process behind Toni Storm’s storyline involving Mariah May. Khan mentioned that he suggested films like All About Eve and Sunset Boulevard to Storm because her persona reminded him of the larger-than-life characters portrayed by Gloria Swanson and Bette Davis. He described Storm as embodying the timeless starlet quality of classic Hollywood figures, both in and out of the ring, and praised her for excelling in this role.

“I went to Toni Storm and suggested these movies–All About Eve and Sunset Boulevard–because she had that larger-than-life persona like Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard and Bette Davis in All About Eve. That is ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm. She’s that starlet, with that presence–backstage, in the ring, out of the ring–of one of those rare old Hollywood stars. This is the role Toni was born to play, and she is absolutely incredible at it.”

Khan also acknowledged the contributions of AEW personality RJ City, who played a crucial role in this creative process. City was noted as the only person in the office familiar with the films All About Eve and Sunset Boulevard and who had an understanding of old Hollywood. Khan commended City for his valuable insights and aptitude for wrestling, as well as his ability to draw inspiration from these classic movies.

“My right hand in all of this is RJ, He was the only person in the office who’d seen All About Eve and Sunset Boulevard, and he understood old Hollywood and the old movies. He’s been so valuable and tremendous throughout this process. He has a great aptitude for wrestling, and he was also able to use these movies for inspiration.”

Mariah May also revealed her true intentions on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. RJ City is clearly happy with how much he has helped shape May and Toni Storm’s storyline, so we’ll have to see how it will progress as we slowly head towards All In next month, where the two will battle for the AEW Women’s Championship.
