Pro wrestling fans have rallied behind Joe Hendry, and many believe in him at this point. Hendry also believes that he will face WWE legend John Cena in the ring before the Greatest of All Time retires. Following several successful appearances in NXT, Hendry is aiming high within the WWE Universe.
John Cena’s retirement tour will include 30 to 40 appearances, but it’s not known who he will wrestle, or how many times he will take bumps in the ring. CM Punk already stated that he would love to lock up with Cena once more if things work out, but he’s in a long line of stars who would love to wrestle the 16x World Champion before he hangs up his jorts.
During a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, Hendry discussed his experiences on NXT and the excitement surrounding his career. Toward the end of the conversation, he expressed his ambitious goal.
“I believe that I will wrestle John Cena.”
Joe Hendry shared a touching story from his youth to explain the significance of wrestling Cena. At 15, Hendry missed his first live wrestling show, but a friend who attended had a VIP ticket and met Cena. The friend mentioned Hendry, leading Cena to call him and chat for several minutes. That meant a lot to Joe, and it still sticks with him to this day.
“John Cena was the first pro wrestler I ever talked to, so for me to be one of his final matches would mean a lot. To me, that is a demonstration of how to treat your fans and how valuable a moment can be for people. I do think it had a very positive effect on me and it showed me what this business is actually all about.”
John Cena announced his impending retirement at WWE Money in the Bank and plans to embark on a farewell tour next year, visiting various locations around the world. Hendry reflected on how Cena’s gesture left a lasting impact on him.
Hendry is set to compete for the TNA World title this Saturday at Slammiversary in a six-way elimination match against Moose, Josh Alexander, Steve Maclin, Nic Nemeth, and Frankie Kazarian. Fans will be watching to see if Hendry can capture TNA Wrestling’s top title.
