Jinder Mahal garnered significant attention earlier this year when he contended for the WWE World Heavyweight Title on RAW. He ended up losing and didn’t do much else before WWE released him back in April. In light of his release, Mahal has now revealed what WWE had planned for him prior to his exit.

While speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Jinder Mahal shared details about his WWE release in April. He recalled that he was no longer considered an active wrestler while being a part of Indus Sher.

Mahal mentioned that he saw a roster sheet that listed him only as a manager and not under active male heels. He even asked a writer if it was even discussed he was not wrestling anymore. The writer informed him that was the case and that the plan was for him to remain a manager, which was WWE’s plan.

Despite this, he continued to stay in shape and remain ready for wrestling opportunities. He recounted pitching various storylines and matches for himself but found no traction until he eventually had a World Heavyweight Title match against Seth Rollins.

I always stay ring ready. Actually, while I was managing Indus Sher, when we got drafted to Raw, I was told that I’m no longer a wrestler, I’m just a manager. But I still stayed in shape… Yeah, yeah, yeah (they told me that) because I was pitching. Well, the writer told me. I was pitching all kinds of storylines, like six-man tags or matches for myself where Indus Sher is managing me and nothing was happening and I asked the writer, I said, ‘What’s the deal?’ And I also know this because I saw the roster sheet. Male heels, Raw, SmackDown male heels, tag teams. I wasn’t listed under male heels. There was the male heel tag teams, Indus Sher, and I was in the brackets. So, as a manager role. So I wasn’t even listed as an active talent and I asked the writer, I said, ‘Hey, was it discussed that I’m not wrestling anymore?’ He said, ‘Yeah, yeah, it was brought up that you’re just gonna manage Indus Sher.’

Jinder Mahal’s post-WWE name has also been revealed, which is now Raj Deshi and he is set to compete in his first match after his WWE exit this month, so Mahal will be active in the world of pro wrestling, something that WWE didn’t really want him to anymore. It remains to be seen whether Mahal will find success outside the realm of WWE, a place he called him for many years.
