Pro wrestlers travel a lot, and it’s part of their job to make big trips for wrestling shows. Right now, there’s a global IT issue causing a lot of trouble for traveling to several big shows over the weekend.
Thousands of US flights were grounded on Friday due to a global technical disaster affecting government agencies and businesses, leading to stranded passengers, canceled medical procedures, and disrupted 911 services. Although a cybersecurity company stated that this was not a security incident or cyberattack, the issue has paralyzed airlines, banks, state agencies, and emergency services worldwide. By Friday afternoon, over 2,700 flights in the US had been canceled and 9,000 delayed, according to FlightAware.com.
This issue is affecting flights and planes worldwide, and it’s already impacting wrestling promotions. GCW announced changes to their weekend shows, and they’re probably not the only ones. Chelsea Green faced delays, which she mentioned on social media, but Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that she’s still listed on early copies of the Smackdown rundown. We haven’t heard of any issues yet with Smackdown talent, but we’ll keep you updated.
TNA Slammiversary this weekend benefited by happening on Saturday, as several TNA talents were also delayed. AEW is running a show in Arlington on Saturday for Collision, and we’ll monitor for any delays related to that event here at Ringside News.
We’ll have to see how this issue changes plans for the weekend. Only time will tell how significant these problems will get, as this is affecting more than just the pro wrestling world. Many people are unable to get to their destinations due to this widespread issue.
