The highly anticipated bout between MJF and Will Ospreay opened AEW’s 250th episode, and the crowd was eager to witness the dream showdown live after being announced last week.

The match featured intense action, high spots, and crowd interactions. MJF used relentless submission holds to wear down Ospreay, while both paid homage to wrestling legends, with MJF mimicking Rick Rude and Ospreay channelling Ric Flair.

Despite injuring his shoulder during an Ozcutter attempt, Ospreay continued, prompting “Fight Forever” chants from the crowd at the 30-minute mark. Near the match’s conclusion, MJF and Ospreay brawled in the crowd, with MJF giving a child the middle finger and Ospreay encouraging the girl to slap him. Back in the ring, they exchanged near falls, eliciting “This is Awesome” chants.

With less than a minute left, Ospreay hesitated before a Tiger Driver 96, allowing MJF to shove him into the referee. MJF then used his Dynamite Diamond ring, to knock him down and secure the pinfall victory with one second remaining, becoming the new champion.

Following his highly spectacular match that could possibly go down as one of the greatest wrestling bouts of all time, MJF took to his X to proclaim the end of Will Ospreay’s reign with America now having a real champion in him.

“Will Ospreay’s title reign has been caught and compromised to a permanent end. America has a real champion now. Easy W. #ThankMeLater.”

With his monumental win, MJF markets the beginning of a new chapter in his career as the AEW International Champion, which will be interesting to see as The Salt of the Earth once again has championship gold.
