Big E has been on a break from in-ring competition due to a serious neck injury. During his absence from in-ring competition, Big E has revealed the conditions required for his in-ring return.
Big E has been sidelined since the March 11, 2022 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, where he sustained a broken neck. During his absence from the ring, Big E has remained active with numerous appearances on various shows.
While speaking to Chris Vannini on Getting Over, Big E provided an update on his neck injury. It has been two years since he broke his neck, specifically the C1 in two places and the C6. He reported feeling great with no pain, discomfort, or weakness, and his strength is back to normal.
However, the C1 is healing fibrously rather than turning into new bone and ossifying, which is necessary for medical clearance. As a result, he remains unfit to be cleared for wrestling. Recently, Big E stated that he visited Cancun for stem cell treatment, hoping it might accelerate the healing process. For now, he feels good but must wait until the bone fully heals to return to action.
“Now we’re at two years and running since I broke my neck. I broke my C1 in two places, my C6 as well. I feel great. I have no issues with pain, no issues with discomfort, weakness, any of those things. My strength is great. The only issue is my C1 is healing fibrously, which is great for normal day-to-day life, but it’s not turning into new bone and ossifying yet. They’re not going to clear me until that happens. It’s obviously a very important bone. Right now, that is the waiting game. I did go to Cancun about a month ago for stem cells. We’ll see if that changes anything. Right now, I feel great, I’m just not in a position to be cleared quite yet.”
However, it is to be noted that Big E recently shared that he may never wrestle again after his neck injury. Nevertheless, Big E is living life the way he wants to and that is all that matters.
