Sami Zayn has been the Intercontinental Champion since defeating Gunther for the title at WrestleMania 40 and has been booked well as the champion since then. He had a solid match with Ilja Dragonuv on RAW this week and dubbed Dragunov as the future of WWE after RAW this week.
The main event of the July 15 edition of Monday Night RAW featured Ilja Dragunov in his first main roster title shot, challenging Sami Zayn for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Sami Zayn requested the match, recognizing the same heart, love, and desire for success in Dragunov that he possessed. Both men encouraged each other to bring their absolute best to the contest.
As the match progressed, the WWE Universe witnessed an intense back-and-forth battle with the prestigious championship on the line. During the final moments, as Zayn and Dragunov fought on the outside, Bron Breakker stormed back and delivered a full-speed spear to Dragunov, causing a disqualification. He then attacked Zayn inside the ring, making it clear that his pursuit of the WWE Intercontinental Title was far from over.
After this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW went off the air, Sami Zayn and Ilja Dragunov stood in the ring and gave each other mutual respect. Zayn labeled Dragunov as the future of WWE and put him over in a big way.
“All of you are looking at the future of WWE right here and his name is Ilja Dragunov!”
Regardless, we will have to wait and see how Bron Breakker and Sami Zayn will continue their feud in the coming weeks, as it is quite clear Ilja Dragunov might be involved as well.
