CM Punk has been sidelined since January due to a triceps injury, but he has stayed in the spotlight thanks to his feud with Drew McIntyre. After last week’s RAW, some speculated that Seth Rollins would be added to Punk and McIntyre’s match at SummerSlam, but it seems that might not happen.
On the June 21st edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Drew McIntyre brutally attacked CM Punk, leaving him in a bloody mess and requiring hospitalization, effectively writing Punk off WWE television. However, CM Punk got his revenge by interfering at Money in the Bank, costing McIntyre his chance to become the World Heavyweight Champion during a failed cash-in attempt.
During the July 8 episode of WWE RAW, Seth Rollins and CM Punk engaged in a war of words and it was reported that there might have been a chance of CM Punk facing off against both Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins at SummerSlam.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that the Punk vs. McIntyre match is still ‘probable.’ He added that Seth Rollins is expected to be involved in the match, but as of six days ago, it was not planned to be a three-way match.
“The Punk (vs McIntyre) match is ‘probable’. Rollins will probably be involved in that match but I was told it was not gonna be a three-way, or at least as of six days ago, it was not gonna be a three-way.”
It remains to be seen whether The Second City Saint will be ready in time for SummerSlam on August 3rd and if he will even manage to defeat Drew McIntyre, should he be able to compete. After all, fans are eager to see Punk and McIntyre face off against each other once and for all.
