Ric Flair stands as one of the most prominent figures in professional wrestling history. Fans were surprised to see him in AEW last year but his time with the company is likely over now. In fact, Flair has now stated that Tony Khan hasn’t contacted him since AEW Revolution.

Tony Khan surprised fans by bringing The Nature Boy Ric Flair to AEW in October 2023 as a special tribute to Sting upon his retirement earlier that year at the Revolution pay-per-view. Flair made his final televised appearance at Revolution, accompanying Sting and Darby Allin. During the event, Flair even took superkicks from The Young Bucks.

As previously reported, Ric Flair’s agreement with AEW was a unique arrangement where a deal was made between the wrestling company and Flair’s Wooooo! Energy as a sponsor. However, the deal likely ended already and Flair’s time in AEW might be over as well.

While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Ric Flair talked about a pitch he made to Tony Khan for Sting’s final match at AEW Revolution. Flair revealed that he suggested a finish where he would stay outside the ring throughout the match due to his health concerns, avoiding any risks associated with his use of blood thinners. His idea involved a surprise attack on Sting towards the end of the match, aiming to recreate their initial confrontation from 31 years ago. Flair believed this would have made a significant impact and turned him into a heel, providing a new direction for his character.

However, Flair noted that after presenting his idea, he hadn’t heard back from Tony Khan. He recalled Khan saying they would follow up, but Mark Henry chimed in, suggesting Flair wouldn’t receive a response. Despite this, Flair felt it was important to demonstrate his creative thinking and willingness to contribute to the storyline.

“I gave them a finish for that match and they looked at me like I had seven different (inaudible)…I don’t think Tony knew that I was on blood thinners. I’ve been doing all that sh*t for all these years and I’ve had blood clots since 2012. If he asked me once, he asked me 10 times. He said do not cut yourself, please…I wanted those guys to have the same match but at the end, instead of leaving me laying there like that, just keep me on the outside the whole time. At the end, as Sting is standing there and those guys are gone, I jump on Sting. Boom boom boom, one big move to me [and] puts the Scorpion on me and we go out the way we started 31 years ago. It would have blown the roof off the joint and it would have made me a heel so I had somewhere to go because it’s just hard to get the people to get mad at me now.

I haven’t heard back from him since…Ric, that’s a good idea, we’ll call you later on. At least I thought I could prove to him that I was thinking.” Mark Henry said, “You won’t.”

We will have to wait and see if Ric Flair’s time in AEW is truly over, as Ric Flair admitting that Tony Khan hasn’t reached out to him since AEW Revolution seems to be a big indication that is the case.
