John Cena was synonymous with the company during the PG era. Fans have long speculated about whether he will achieve a 17th WWE Championship reign. Recently, Ric Flair expressed his openness to Cena surpassing his record as well.

The Leader Of Cenation became a 16-time World Champion after defeating AJ Styles at the 2017 Royal Rumble, equalling his record with Ric Flair. Fans have wondered whether Cena will surpass Flair or not.

At the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event, John Cena confirmed that he will be ending his in-ring career next year and that is why he has a whole retirement tour planned for 2025.

Ric Flair expressed his thoughts on his championship reign record being broken during an interview on Busted Open Radio. Flair mentioned that while he would love for his daughter to achieve this milestone, he has no issue if John Cena were to accomplish it instead.

Flair holds Cena in high regard, describing him as a genuinely great person. He acknowledged Cena’s stature in the wrestling world and his respect for tradition, suggesting that if Cena were to break the record, Flair would happily congratulate him in the ring. Flair stated that records are meant to be broken and expressed sentimental attachment to his record but indicated a readiness to support Cena if he were to achieve this feat.

Regarding Cena’s intentions, Flair shared his belief that Cena may not actively pursue breaking the record due to his admiration for Flair. He reflected on Cena’s fandom and speculated that Cena might hesitate to surpass a milestone set by someone he holds in such high esteem.

”None,” Flair said when he was asked if he has no problem with John Cena breaking his title reign record. “The honest to God truth, I think so much personally of John Cena. He’s just one of those really great guys, in my opinion. And I have known a few. In a perfect world, it would be my daughter which I think would be the biggest thing that could ever happen. I told her one time and she got upset. Not upset but she didn’t like the comparison. I said ‘you’d would be as famous as Serena Williams if you broke that record that’s been there for so long.’ She didn’t like the comparison but she’s as good an athlete as there is alive today. If they do it with John, I have no problem. I’d be the first one to hit the ring and shake his hand. They’re meant to be broken. Sentimentally, I like it but – I’d hit the ring on John. I’d probably take a blade, jump him without telling anybody, have him make a comeback, and give me the same hold.”

Even John Cena has revealed the condition for him to become a 17-time World Champion. John Cena also explained why he will retire from in-ring competition in 2025, so it remains to be seen whether John Cena will end up making history by becoming a 17-time World Champion when all is said and done.
