Donovan Dijak had a solid run in NXT last year, but his transition to the main roster was cut short following the WWE Draft. Now officially a free agent after parting ways with WWE, he is in no rush to sign with a promotion.
Dijak’s WWE contract finally expired on June 28th, officially marking him as free agent. He was free to do what he wanted, and that’s why he made an appearance backstage at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. He would then make his in-ring return last week for good measure.
While speaking in a recent interview with WrestleMobs, Dijak mentioned that he had reached out to various contacts to explore potential opportunities for his future.
“I mean, yeah, we’ve… I wouldn’t say that they’re conversations per se, but we’ve reached out to pretty much everybody at this point, just to see what the field has to offer in terms of what people either want or don’t want, or what they’re looking for,” Donovan Dijak said. “I know that there’s a lot of things going on backstage with TV rights, deals and things like that. New Japan’s doing some shifting around in terms of contracts and stuff.“
The former WWE Superstar continued to express that he wasn’t in a hurry to sign with any promotion, having been under contract for the past seven years and now seeking a break from commitments.
“Listen, I’m not in a big rush. I’ve been under a contract for seven years. I could use some time not under contract. If the right contract comes around, that’s great. It has to be accomplished by the right conversation to go with it. I’ve been down the road of being handed a contract and said, ‘Take it or leave it and whatever happens, happens,’ and I go, ‘Okay, I need to prove myself. I need to show that I’m a good employee, I need to show that I’m loyal.’”
Dijak also won his first title in seven years recently as well. Dijak also recently stated that Tony Khan is aware of his interest in joining AEW. Regardless, we will have to wait and see what’s next in store for the former WWE Superstar, as the possibilities are ending for him.
