Dominik Mysterio Wants Stronger WWE World Title Run Than Rey Mysterio Had

WWE has given Dominik Mysterio a lot to do since he emerged as Rey Mysterio’s son. That “I’m Your Papi” angle with Eddie Guerrero will always be part of Dom’s past, but it no longer defines him. Now, he is looking toward what he could do next in the company.

Dominik Mysterio has set his sights on the title currently held by Cody Rhodes for his own personal reasons. He wants to face his father with the biggest title in the company on the line.

During a recent interview with ESPN Daytona, Dominik Mysterio revealed that he would like to capture the WWE Title to beat his dad’s record. In 2011, Rey Mysterio held the WWE championship for less than two hours. Mysterio captured the title on the July 25 episode of Monday Night Raw that year, only to lose it at the end of the night to John Cena. It would be the only time Mysterio held that particular championship. “Dirty” Dom wants that title, and he wants a run stronger than his father had.

“With the legacy that Cody’s building on SmackDown for the Undisputed Title and the legacy that’s being built currently for the World Heavyweight Championship which Seth started and now Damian is carrying it. So I don’t know, man. I think it’s pretty special because my deadbeat ended up holding the World Title two times. Then, he ended up winning the WWE title just once for, I believe, it was maybe 30 minutes, and then Cena came back and took it from him. So, I think right now, I would love to beat his 30-minute record of WWE Champion. So I think the WWE Undisputed Title that Cody currently has; it has Mysterio history written all over it.”

While Cody Rhodes doesn’t have Dominik Mysterio on his potential opponent radar, you never know what might happen down the line. If anything, Rey vs. Dom for the Undisputed World Title may be an amazing match with a lot of very personal build, if they go that direction. Anything is possible in WWE, and while Rey doesn’t wrestle as much as he did in the past, he would certainly get himself ready to take part in that program if WWE offers it to him.
