It’s not far-fetched to say that Mercedes Mone has been one of the most significant signings in all of AEW. While she was initially a babyface, she is leaning towards being a heel now and AEW’s reaction to fans turning on her has been revealed.
Mercedes Mone’s heel turn essentially started after she was outshone by Britt Baker at Double or Nothing. She was then subsequently disturbed by Baker during her championship celebration on Dynamite last week.
During the July 10 edition of AEW Dynamite, Mone hosted a double championship victory toast to celebrate her big win. She assured everyone that, courtesy of The Young Bucks, there would be no interruptions this time. During the toast, Mone berated Britt Baker about a potential match at AEW All-In.
This provoked The Doctor, who took out the security and stormed the ring. Mercedes Mone escaped through the crowd, leaving Baker to receive an ovation from the audience and Mone acted like a proper heel.
While speaking on Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked if there was any concern about the reaction Mercedes Mone got since fans turned on her completely. Ross Sapp noted that AEW knew Mone was going to lean towards the heel route, adding that he was sure Mone wanted to be a heel as well.
“They knew she could lean towards the heel route. Also, they leaned into it with the Britt Baker stuff. I’m pretty sure Mercedes wanted to be a heel as well.”
Mercedes Mone also issued an open challenge for the TBS Title to anyone but Britt Baker for AEW Dynamite next week, so we’ll have to see who will end up answering her challenge.
What do you think of Mercedes Mone’s character now that she is leaning towards being a heel? Is she better as a heel than a babyface? Sound off in the comments section below!
