AJ Styles has been considered one of the best pro wrestlers by fans and his peers. The Phenomenal One always competes at a very high level and despite his age, Styles has barely slowed down. Interestingly enough, he threw shade at the concept of star ratings in pro wrestling after his NOAH match.
Pro Wrestling NOAH and WWE announced that AJ Styles would face off against Naomichi Marufuji at NOAH Destination 2024 on July 13 at Budokan Hall and there was a ton of hype for the match.
The Phenomenal One lived up to his moniker as he faced Marufuji in a solid match and picked up the win with a thunderous Styles Clash. While speaking during an interview after the match, AJ Styles put over Naomichi Marufuji in a big way.
Afterwards, AJ Styles was asked about his thoughts on Japanese fans. In response, he took a jab at the star ratings given by Dave Meltzer for matches. Styles emphasized that it’s always the fans who truly make the match special.
“There’s a reason why a lot of Japanese matches get five star ratings from people that really don’t matter but when you watch it back you understand because it’s always the fans that make the match.”
It is to be noted that AJ Styles did admit that time is running out when it comes to his in-ring career. Regardless, we will have to wait and see what’s next in store for Styles, as he finally has momentum right now.
