The 2024 WWE Money in the Bank event in Toronto, Canada saw John Cena announce his impending retirement as a professional wrestler. In light of his announcement, WWE is already considering opponents for Cena.
During his promo, the former WWE Champion announced his plans to be present when Raw moves to Netflix, followed by stating that the Royal Rumble, the Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 2025 will mark his final wrestling appearances. John Cena intends to remain active throughout the year, aiming to wrestle in 30 to 40 matches.
Contrary to speculation, Cena clarified that WrestleMania 2025 will not be his last match, as he intends to continue wrestling beyond that event. According to Dave Meltzer’s latest report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, various names have been discussed regarding potential opponents for Cena. However, it was emphasized that nothing is confirmed yet, and Cena is actively discussing whom he would like to face.
Meltzer also noted that there is a tentative schedule in place, which includes bookings at major arenas and overseas dates, indicating Cena’s commitment to a substantial wrestling schedule in the upcoming period.
“Nothing is for sure as far as opponents, and he’s discussing who he would like to work with.” Meltzer added, “There is a tentative schedule, including major arenas and overseas dates.”
