Before Triple H took over as Head of creative in WWE, he managed the NXT for several years. Sami Callihan, currently wrestling for TNA, was part of NXT and shared an incident where Triple H shouted at him backstage.
Callihan, known as Solomon Crowe in NXT, debuted on February 18, 2015, by attacking Juice Robinson (formerly CJ Parker) while portraying a hacker gimmick. He used a tablet to manipulate the arena lights during his debut.
In a recent appearance on the Wrestling is Life is Wrestling podcast, Callihan recalled Triple H telling him he wasn’t supposed to be a hacker and instructing him to stop cutting promos like one.
Despite this, the writing team continued to give him hacker-themed promos. Callihan explained that he was told the hacker angle was just a unique way to introduce him, similar to Jericho’s Save Us Y2J gimmick, but the writers persisted with the hacker narrative.
“They debut me with the hacker character with just the vignettes. I attack Juice (Robinson) and I cut a promo and then Triple H yells at me, ‘You’re not a hacker. Quit cutting hacker promos.’ But the writers were writing me hacker promos. I was told, ‘This is just a cool way to debut you. You’re not a hacker. It’s just like Jericho’s Save Us Y2J. You’re not a hacker,’ but they keep writing that.”
Karrion Kross also wanted Sami Callihan to make his way to WWE when his contract expired last year, but Callihan ultimately didn’t go back to WWE and is back at TNA. With WWE and TNA’s current partnership, perhaps fans might get to see Callihan return to WWE eventually.
