There is no doubt that Bayley is one of the top female Superstars in all of WWE as her previous reign as Smackdown Women’s Champion lasted 380 days and on top of that, she also has the most days as Women’s Champion in modern WWE. She is a babyface right now but she was worried about being called ‘female John Cena’ before turning heel in the past.

Before all that, Bayley underwent a massive change in character during the October 11, 2019 edition of Friday Night Smackdown. During the episode, Bayley turned heel for the first time on the main roster, as she destroyed her Bayley Buddies.

While speaking in a recent conversation with Cody Rhodes on his podcast, “What Do You Wanna Talk About?“, Bayley discussed her decision to turn heel. The Role Model admitted she was uncertain if the character change would succeed, but she was eager to explore all possibilities, including an on-screen love angle.

The WWE Women’s Champion also shared her concern about being labeled the “female John Cena” due to her strong babyface persona, similar to the 16-time World Champion.

“So it was kind of like I was at a crossroads, if I never try this then I’ll never know and I always as a fan wanted to do everything. You know, I want to be a good guy. I want to be a bad guy. I want to be in a love story. I want to do like the craziest things because I want all that experience. And I was a little nervous when I first started cause I thought I would get a lot of female [John] Cena comments, which is the best compliment I could ever get in that character, you know, but I also was like, ‘Uhh, I want to try different things.”

Bayley also previously noted that the heel turn was her idea. Regardless, Bayley is currently engaged in her own feud on Friday Night SmackDown, so we’ll have to see how that will progress.
