Shane McMahon made his name in WWE, serving as an authority figure on television for years. Though he no longer holds an official role in the company, he remains a significant topic of discussion within the pro wrestling community. Rumors suggest he may join AEW, which would be a major acquisition for Tony Khan.
Speculation about Shane McMahon joining AEW intensified after he was seen talking to Mercedes Mone at an airport. Although she confirmed their conversation, it doesn’t necessarily indicate that he’s heading to AEW.
During an appearance on Maggie & Perloff, AEW President Tony Khan was asked about the possibility of Shane joining AEW. Tony mentioned that he’s never met Shane McMahon but acknowledged Shane’s extensive experience and connections in the wrestling industry.
“Shane McMahon is somebody that I’ve never met, but he has a lot of experience in wrestling and a lot of friends in AEW. I have never really had any conversations with him or talked to him ever. I know he ran into Mercedes Mone after Forbidden Door, which is a cool coincidence. I have never met him. I’d be open to talking to him, and he’s welcome to stop by at any time. I know that’s an interesting rumor. There have been all kinds of interesting people in wrestling to come into AEW and walk through that Forbidden Door. This might be, if it ever happens, one of the more shocking ones. Even though I’ve never talked to him, he seems like a really nice guy.”
Shane McMahon hasn’t appeared on WWE television since suffering a leg injury at WrestleMania 39 during a match against The Miz. Although he has recovered, he may not be ready to return to the ring. Since Vince McMahon’s departure from WWE, Shane has been absent, leaving Triple H as the only family member still officially involved with WWE after the Endeavor merger with UFC.
Shane McMahon’s television appearances historically boosted ratings. It remains to be seen if Tony Khan and Shane McMahon will ever have a conversation, but it likely wouldn’t be difficult for Shane to contact Tony if he wanted to.
