Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks during her WWE tenure, has carved out a significant presence in the wrestling industry. Recently, she alleged that WWE imposed restrictions on her for outside work. However, this has now led to her being called out for having a massive ego.
Mercedes Mone notably walked out of WWE in May 2022, alongside Naomi. Her departure was reportedly attributed to creative frustrations and concerns about her position within the women’s division.
Mercedes Mone recently claimed that WWE imposed restrictions on her for filming ‘The Mandalorian’ and stated that it was like pulling teeth. Her comments made her a subject of controversy as well. Mone would then confirm she has creative control in AEW as well.
While speaking on Storytime with Dutch Mantell, Dutch Mantell addressed Mercedes Mone’s comments about WWE imposing restrictions on her. He criticized Mercedes Mone’s talent suggesting it wasn’t in interviews or in her work. He attributed her rocky relationship with WWE to her ego, noting WWE’s intolerance for such behavior during Vince McMahon’s tenure.
Dutch Mantell then added that Mone wants to have an ego in AEW and warned AEW not to have Mone tell management what they want or do not want to do as others in AEW would see that management do not have control like they thought they did.
“I hate to tell you, your talent is not in your interviews, I’ll tell you that. And I don’t think it’s in your work, to tell you the truth. I see nothing in her, and I can see why she didn’t get along with WWE because she has an ego. You can’t have an ego in WWE, especially when Vince was there. Vince had the ego; nobody else had one. So if you wanted to match egos with him, go in there and talk to him. The next thing we see is you’re walking out the door with your bag in your hand.”
“And now she wants to have an ego there. They still won’t put up with it. You cannot allow that to happen. You cannot allow the talent to tell the management what they’ll do or won’t do because pretty soon, the other talent sees that the management doesn’t have control like they thought they did.”
Mercedes Mone also defeated Stephanie Vaquer at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door and became a double champion. Regardless, there will be many who are not fans of Mercedes Mone has to say and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
