Johnny Gargano Says Winning WWE Tag Titles Was The Endgame After 7/5 SmackDown

Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa had been on the main roster for a while but they still hadn’t won any championship and this puzzled fans. That all changed after SmackDown this week and Gargano has now made it clear that winning the titles was the endgame for them.

DIY’s journey came full circle on the July 5 episode of WWE SmackDown when they defeated Grayson Waller and Austin Theory to claim the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Their victory echoed a pivotal moment nearly eight years earlier at NXT TakeOver: Toronto 2016, where they first captured gold by defeating The Revival.

While speaking in SmackDown Exclusive, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa talked about their huge in. Gargano gave emphasis to its significance in Toronto and pointed out that winning these titles on the main roster was always their long-term goal, proving doubters wrong along the way.

Tommaso Ciampa expressed his excitement about bringing the titles home, especially now as proud fathers, cherishing the moment with their children

Johnny Gargano: ”Toronto, we did it. Lightning struck twice, and we are the lighting bolt that this tag team division needs.”

Johnny Gargano: ”Do you remember when we were in Orlando? We’re gonna go way back, longer than eight years. Obviously, winning the NXT Tag Team Titles was huge for us. It made our careers, but this was always the endgame for us. Getting here, winning these titles. Two guys who were never even supposed to work for this company now hold WWE gold. A lot of people out there believe in us. A lot of people out there know what we’re capable of. But there’s some doubters, some people who don’t know. Tonight, we proved you wrong. That’s what we do. We prove people wrong. We prove the people they doubt us wrong, the people that believe in us right.”

Tommaso Ciampa: ”These are the prettiest titles in all of the WWE, and [brings title close to his head] she just told me that she can’t wait to get home and meet Willow, and Willow can’t wait to meet her, and I’m sure Quill can’t wait to meet her.”

Johnny Gargano: ”That’s the difference now. When we won the NXT Tag Team Titles, we weren’t even dads yet. Now, we’re dads. We have kids to share this with. I’m gonna go home, you’re gonna go home. I’m gonna open my bag and show Quill this. He’s probably gonna say, ‘Thank you,’ and walk away with it, which is fine, it’s his. Life’s cool. Life is really freaking cool.”

We will have to wait and see how Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa will be booked as the WWE Tag Team Champions in the coming weeks, as fans are happy to see them finally win some tag team gold.
