Chris Jericho takes pride in his work with AEW and isn’t shy about expressing it. Known for his love of competing globally, he made a surprising appearance at CMLL Viernes Espectacular last week. Jericho has now stated that Mexican fans aren’t concerned about TV ratings or star ratings.

Chris Jericho made a surprise appearance at the CMLL event on June 28, where he attacked Mistico and issued a challenge for a match. This marked Jericho’s first appearance at Arena Mexico since 1995, adding to the excitement of the event.

The June 19th AEW Dynamite drew concerning television ratings, with only 502,000 viewers and 0.16 key demo rating. This was a significant drop from the previous week’s 681,000 viewers and a 0.23 demo on June 12th, and this worried fans in a big way. In fact, AEW’s television ratings are always a major topic of discussion every week.

While speaking on Talk Is Jericho, Chris Jericho reflected on the crowd response in Arena Mexico during his first appearance there in nearly two decades. He appreciated the enthusiastic atmosphere, noting that around 12,000 fans were in attendance on a regular Friday night. The fans were purely there to enjoy the show, cheering for the good guys and booing the bad guys without concerns about ticket sales, TV ratings, or star ratings and this genuine enjoyment was refreshing for him.

“The thing I liked the best was just going there on a normal Friday night, they had about 12,000 people there, which is amazing. The fans are just happy, they’re just excited. They cheer for the good guys and they boo the bad guys, and they’re not chanting ‘You f***** up’ and they’re not worried about how many tickets were sold or what the television ratings were, giving out star ratings whatever it was. They were just enjoying the show. It was such a refresher for me, and I really am glad that I did it. Once again, it kind of is something from the Chris Jericho trope. You’ve got people that are chanting ‘Please retire,’ which is great [laughs], and here I got I Mexico, and it’s the number one thing in wrestling.”

“It was on the cover of all the magazines and I think there’s was probably 15 articles on all the different wrestling sites and sports sites that Jericho had returned. So it’s a big deal, it was gonna be a great time to go there, and it gave me more momentum and excitement to come back. It’s just good to know that this worldwide history that I have, I can go back to it at any time, and now is the perfect time to go back to it. So muchas gracias, Arena Mexico, and we will see everybody there very soon.”

Will Ospreay also addressed the shocking ratings for AEW Dynamite last month. Nevertheless, the discourse surrounding AEW ratings might not be ending anytime soon and fans have accepted that fact.
