The annual Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament is approaching its conclusion after presenting some of the most highly exhilarating in-ring action in AEW in recent weeks.
As announced by AEW President and CEO Tony Khan, the winner of both the Men’s Women’s tournaments will receive World Championship matches at their premier event set to take place next month, AEW All-In.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that the heavy favourite to win the Owen Hart Foundation Cup from the Men’s side is The American Dragon Bryan Danielson.
The former WWE superstar defeated Shingo Takagi at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door and later outlasted The Bastard PAC on the July 3 edition of AEW Beach Break to make his way to the finals. Bryan will now face the winner of the Adam Page vs Jay White match set to take place at the July 6 edition of AEW Collision.
“Wembley will have Strickland facing the Owen Hart tournament winner, which the favorite would be Danielson, who beat Shingo Takagi to advance on this show. Right now there will be an Adam Page vs. Jay White match on the 7/6 Collision show, and the winner faces Danielson on 7/10 for the title shot.”
With Bryan Danielson rumoured to go to Wembley Stadium for a huge title opportunity against the reigning AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland, it will surely be a memorable bout in the last leg of his storied wrestling career.
