Drew Gulak was among the recent WWE departures, but he wasn’t released. His contract expired, and he was not re-signed. The official narrative is that there was nothing for him to do.

During the press conference to promote NXT Heatwave, Shawn Michaels answered questions from the media, including ones about recent WWE departures. He was candid about Gable Steveson’s departure. Gulak’s name came up.

Michaels explained that Gulak’s contract was expiring, and there wasn’t a role for him on the main roster. The decision to move on was made from a business standpoint.

“From my understanding, nothing on anyone’s part other than contracts being up. Certainly, in the place of Drew Gulak. From a company standpoint, there not being anything from a main roster standpoint that they were going to be using him in. In NXT, over the last year and a half to two years, we’ve been trying to get into the process of keeping it fluid. It’s all about getting to the main roster when everything is said and done. In two or three years, if that doesn’t happen, we bring other people in or see if we’re ready to move on.”

Ronda Rousey alleged that Gulak harassed her, naming him publicly. This story coincided with his departure, but there is no concrete evidence that this was the reason he wasn’t re-signed.

Gulak was regularly appearing on NXT before Ronda Rousey’s comments. He denied any wrongdoing, explaining that he accidentally touched the string of her sweatpants while reaching out to shake her hand.
