Ronda Rousey departed from WWE after her match against Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam last year and since then she has branched out to various creative avenues, including even a comic book. In fact, Rousey has credited Paul Heyman for encouraging her creatively in WWE.
In her book “Our Fight,” Ronda Rousey delved into her WWE experiences, providing candid insights into her tenure with the company. Notably, she uses strong language towards Bruce Prichard and John Laurinaitis, expressing her frustrations by telling them to go ‘f*** themselves.’ Ronda Rousey also alleges that WWE discriminated against women.
While speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Ronda Rousey opened up about her experience working with Paul Heyman during her WWE tenure. Rousey stated that Heyman was instrumental in broadening her creative perspective beyond her physical abilities. Known primarily as an athlete and fighter, Rousey appreciated Heyman for recognizing her potential beyond the ring.
”He’s one of the few people who really encouraged me creatively. He showed me I’m so much more than just what my body can do. That’s how so many people see me–as an athlete, as a fighter. It’s all about performing, being on camera, focusing on what I can do physically–but it was different with Paul.”
Alongside her wrestling career, Rousey is gearing up for the launch of her debut graphic novel, “Expect The Unexpected,” scheduled to debut through a Kickstarter campaign on July 25. She continues to pursue various projects, crediting Heyman for encouraging her to explore creative endeavors outside her comfort zone.
“It was Paul Heyman who said, ‘What do you want your movie to be?’ Paul produced my segments during the second half of my first year in WWE, and he really worked with me on being able to write my own promos and deliver them. I’d wrote before, two memoirs, but not creatively–he encouraged me to create outside of myself. Paul was my first mentor as a writer, and he saw that in me.”
On top of this, Ronda Rousey will be writing the screenplay for her own biopic, so she is definitely a busy woman right now and will forever be grateful for all the help Paul Heyman has given her, something she will never fail to appreciate.
