This year has seen many big names enter the free agent market. Now, one of AEW’s rising stars could be considering testing that market. Daniel Garcia, despite his big moments, has a contract nearing its end.

Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that Daniel Garcia’s AEW contract was set to expire in fall 2024, at least as of earlier this year. If Garcia hasn’t re-signed, he could hit free agency at 26 with extensive television experience on ROH and AEW. However, a top AEW figure suggested Garcia might have already re-signed and is expected to stay with the company.

Sources close to Garcia indicated his future would soon become clearer. Garcia declined to comment. In January 2021, Garcia had a WWE tryout that went well, leading to an NXT TV match, but WWE didn’t sign him, stating they would act quickly if another company showed interest. This tryout led WWE to conduct specific tryouts for wrestlers with in-ring experience.

“When we asked directly to those close to Garcia about his contract status, they said that a lot of his future would likely come into focus soon. We did reach out to Garcia, but didn’t get a comment on the record or on background for the story.”

AEW has plans for Garcia, who takes on Will Ospreay tonight on AEW Dynamite for the AEW International Title. We will have to see how that goes for him, especially with MJF also offering Garcia a match at All In.
