Carmelo Hayes finished up his time in NXT after losing to Trick Williams and was called up to SmackDown on the opening night of the 2024 WWE Draft. He also had a major promo botch with LA Knight earlier this year and he has now addressed the same.

During the May 31 edition of SmackDown, LA Knight voiced his ambition to seize Logan Paul’s WWE United States Championship, believing it would elevate him to the next level and embody his persona fully.

In a backstage segment, Carmelo Hayes confronted LA Knight, questioning why Logan Paul should face someone like Knight instead of him. However, Hayes accidentally mentioned LA Knight’s name instead of Logan Paul’s, creating an amusing and unexpected moment in their exchange.

Why would LA wanna face you when a first round draft pick is standing right here?

While speaking to SHAK Wrestling, Carmelo Hayes talked about the botch and when it was pointed out to him, he was initially confused. He kept going during the moment, but afterwards, Knight informed him that he had mistakenly said “LA” instead of “Logan.” He realized that while he was looking at someone and thinking of someone else, he often made such errors. People criticized him for the mistake, but he didn’t understand what they were talking about until he recalled what he had said.

Hayes acknowledged that LA Knight was quick to notice and pointed it out, but he accepted it as it was, recognizing that nobody is perfect. When asked if they ever talked about the incident, Hayes mentioned LA Knight, who was laughing about it, brought it up, and they both found it cool and moved on from it.

“I did it so quickly, not even thinking about it, and then when he said that, I was just like, ‘The freak is he talking about?’ I just kept going. After the fact, somebody was like, ‘Oh, you said LA said A Logan.’ I was like, ‘Oh,’ because I’m literally sitting there like, ‘What is he talking about?’ You know, you’re looking at somebody and you’re thinking of somebody else. I do it all the time. People were roasting me like I’d made a huge mistake, but I remember thinking after the fact, ‘What did I say?’ Then I realized, ‘Oh, I did say that.’

He’s quick, you know what I mean? He’s watching me. It was what it was. I’m not perfect, bro; nobody is. Did you guys ever talk about that since it happened, that promo? I mean, he’s the one that was like, ‘You said LA, I said Logan.’ I was like, ‘Oh.’ He was laughing about it. It was cool.”

Regardless, Carmelo Hayes is now focused on competing in the Money in the Bank ladder match on July 6th, so we will have to wait and see how he will fare in the match, as the botch is clearly something of the past.
