The fall of WCW remains a hot topic within the wrestling community, with its demise attributed to various factors. Booker T has recently added to the conversation, claiming that Hulk Hogan played a major role in WCW’s downfall.
The ”Who Killed WCW?” docuseries was produced by Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions and the series premiered last month, which ended up bringing the death of WCW back into the forefront again.
While speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T agreed with the notion that Hogan was one of the reasons WCW eventually failed. He noted that Hogan helped elevate WCW to a prominent stage, echoing Eric Bischoff’s sentiment that Hogan’s involvement made a difference when it came to making calls and setting up meetings. Hogan was a marquee star who drew attention and facilitated crucial connections.
However, Booker T also pointed out key moments that contributed to WCW’s decline, specifically mentioning the Finger Poke of Doom and his own experience at Bash at the Beach. He believed these incidents could have been avoided and would remain blemishes on WCW’s legacy. Despite the negative impact, Booker T reflected on these moments as necessary experiences for him personally.
“I agree 100%. Hulk Hogan put WCW on that grand stage. Like Eric Bischoff said, when he made phone calls people would answer. When it was time to have meetings, take a meeting, and Hulk was going to be there that you know, the meeting was made. And I get it, Hulk was a marquee guy. But the Finger Poke of Doom, the moment with myself [Bash at the Beach], I really think was something that could have been avoided. It could have been avoided. I think those two things will gonna be stains on WCW forevermore. There’s nothing we could do about it. But for me, there again, I really think I needed it.”
Vince Russo also named those whom he believes were responsible for WCW’s death. Nevertheless, WCW’s demise will always be a hot topic, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
