Will Ospreay is one of the top stars in AEW and remains a focal point of AEW television. He had a tremendous match against Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door but ultimately lost the match. Ospreay has now broken his silence on the matter.
From the outset, Swerve and Ospreay engaged in a fiercely competitive battle, each striving to outshine the other. Fans enthusiastically chanted “this is awesome” as the two competitors displayed their prowess with rapid transitions and numerous near falls.
The intensity escalated when Swerve executed a piledriver on the barricade at ringside, yet Ospreay persevered. Swerve attempted a top rope stomp, but Ospreay countered by knocking him off balance. Despite delivering an Oz Cutter from the top rope and other signature moves, Ospreay only managed a close two-count.
The match continued with brutal exchanges, including a devastating House Call from Swerve. A moment of inadvertence saw the referee inadvertently struck by Ospreay, prompting Don Callis to urge Ospreay to resort to a screwdriver, which he refused. Strickland then hit Ospreay with a Swerve Stomp, resulting in yet another near fall.
In the climax of the bout, Swerve secured the victory with another House Call, successfully defending his AEW World Title. His hard-earned triumph came as a surprise to those who had favored Ospreay to win.
Following his crushing defeat, Will Ospreay took to Twitter and broke his silence on the matter as he uploaded a video of a UFC fighter, who promised to be champion one day. The fighter echoed Ospreay’s sentiments as The Aerial Assassin is definitely determined to become the AEW World Champion one day.
”Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow and maybe not the next month. Only, one thing is true, I will be champion one day, I promise.”
Despite his loss against Swerve Strickland, Will Ospreay remains the AEW International Champion, so we’ll have to see how he will be booked in the coming months as it is clear he will eventually get back into the main event scene one day.
