Lio Rush has been part of the AEW family again for some time now, after parting ways with the company years ago. He was part of the TNT ladder match at Forbidden Door but it appears he sustained an injury during the match.
At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, the AEW TNT Championship was fiercely contested in a Ladder Match featuring Jack Perry, Lio Rush, El Phantasmo, Dante Martin, Mark Briscoe, and Konosuke Takeshita. The match was filled with high spots, showcasing each competitor’s skills and narrative.
Lio Rush endured two brutal bumps into ladders amidst the chaos, revealing the intensity of the match as everyone vied to be the first to reach the TNT Title suspended above the ring. Fans clamored for tables, which also came into play during the match. Ultimately, Takeshita nearly secured victory, only to be thwarted by Mark Briscoe, who set up a ladder and executed a Jay Driller through it.
Just as victory seemed within reach for Briscoe, Jack Perry intervened with another ladder, sending Briscoe crashing to the mat. Perry then seized the moment, dismantling Briscoe with a chair before ascending the ladder to claim the TNT Title, crowning himself as the new champion.
Following the intense battle, Beyond Wrestling took to Twitter and announced that Lio Rush sustained an injury during the ladder match and has been withdrawn from their upcoming Americanrana show on July 4th, where he was slated to face Aaron Rourke.
”BREAKING: Lio Rush suffered an injury during tonight’s ladder match and will no longer be able to compete against @PerfectAaron1 at #Americanrana this Thursday, 4th of July at White Eagle in Worcester. We are working to find a suitable replacement…”
This is certainly unfortunate for Lio Rush, who had finally found his footing on AEW. We will have to wait and see if he suffered a serious injury and will have to take some time off in the end. Till then, fans will hope for the best and wish him a speedy recovery.
