AEW has seen tons of growth over the years but there is always room for more growth and improvement. In light of this, Tony Khan has also made it clear he is open to regularly scheduling 3-hour blocks for AEW shows.
With 2024 marking the year of media rights renewal for the promotion, speculation about potential significant changes for AEW has intensified. One key topic of discussion is the possibility of either Dynamite or Collision permanently expanding to three-hour blocks. This move comes in light of the recent success and viewer engagement observed during extended programming slots.
While speaking to Wrestling Observer Radio, Tony Khan made it clear he is open to the idea of regularly scheduling 3-hour blocks or shows for AEW. He stated that discussions about programming, scheduling, and distribution are ongoing with Warner Bros. Discovery, pointing out their approach to shaping AEW’s television offerings.
Khan suggested that Warner Bros. Discovery has been supportive of AEW’s current direction and programming strategies, suggesting potential opportunities for expanding their content offerings in the future.
“I’m open to these things. — I think that with these shows and these packages right now, Warner Brothers Discovery has been a big part of these programming/scheduling/distribution conversations. We work hand in hand with them, and I think they like what we’re doing right now a lot. So y’know the way we’re talking right now, there’s a ton of opportunities.”
Considering AEW has been running three-hour blocks with Collision and Rampage lately, perhaps it will become a permanent thing in the future. Regardless, only time will tell what Tony Khan will do in the end.
