AEW Forbidden Door included many notable matches, and the Owen Hart Cup Tournament is still going strong as well. That gave Tony Khan’s company a chance to feature one big match during the pay-per-view, as Saraya and Mariah May got to share the spotlight.
The 2024 Owen Hart Cup Women’s Tournament featured intense competition and standout performances, all trying to earn a title match at All In. In the opening round, Willow Nightingale defeated Serena Deeb, advancing to face Kris Statlander at AEW Dynamite’s Beach Break episode on Wednesday. Statlander had previously secured a win over Nyla Rose.
On the other portion of the bracket, Deonna Purrazzo faced Hikaru Shida, with Shida emerging victorious. Shida will advance to compete against Mariah May or Saraya.
In a surprising turn of events, Mariah May was able to get Saraya with a roll-up pin to win the match. She will advance into the next round of the Owen Hart Cup Tournament. Now, Shida will face May in the next round.
This match’s conclusion was a bit of a shock for fans in Long Island. Needless to say, Saraya was very surprised by this result as well.
