AEW Forbidden Door featured numerous big moments for fans, with one certainty: a new TNT Champion would be crowned in Long Island.
Everything seemed to be going well for Adam Copeland. At AEW Double or Nothing on May 26, 2024, Copeland defeated Malakai Black in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match to retain the AEW TNT Title. However, things took a turn for the worse when Copeland received bad news from his doctor.
Copeland was injured during the Double or Nothing match after jumping off the cage to put Black through a table. He didn’t land correctly and suffered an injury. The following week, the Young Bucks stripped him of the title.
At Forbidden Door, the AEW TNT Championship was decided in a Ladder Match featuring Jack Perry, Lio Rush, El Phantasmo, Dante Martin, Mark Briscoe, and Konosuke Takeshita. The match included numerous high spots, allowing each competitor to showcase their skills and tell their story.
This match included many high spots, and everyone took punishment. Lio Rush took two bad bumps into ladders, as everyone tried to make it to the TNT Title hanging above the ring first.
As they fought on, fans chanted that they wanted tables, and those were in play as well. In the end, Takeshita tried to make his way to the TNT Title, and he almost made it, but Mark Briscoe stopped him, and then he set up a ladder which he hit a Jay Driller through.
Just as Jay was about to touch the TNT Title, Jack Perry nailed him with another ladder, and the Briscoe Brother fell to the mat. Perry destroyed Jay with a chair before climbing up to claim the TNT Title and become the new champion.
The Young Bucks wanted to make the former Jungle Boy the TNT Champion from the start as soon as Adam Copeland lost the title. Now, Perry is TNT Champion anyway, but he had to earn it.
