CM Punk, sidelined from competing in the ring since January due to a triceps injury, has remained in the spotlight primarily through his ongoing feud with Drew McIntyre. Recently removed from WWE television, details regarding his return to in-ring action have now surfaced.
CM Punk made his return at Clash at The Castle Premium Live Event, where he interfered and cost Drew McIntyre the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match against Damian Priest. Following this, Drew McIntyre utterly annihilated CM Punk on the June 21st edition of Friday Night SmackDown and left him bloody mess as he was transported to the hospital.
It was clear as day that WWE wrote CM Punk off television again so that he could continue his recovery. Naturally, this made fans wonder if he would actually recover in time.
While speaking on Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked whether CM Punk was cleared for in-ring competition. Sapp noted that as of this Friday, Punk still didn’t get any clearance.
“No he wasn’t, as of last Friday. That’s why they had to get creative with him.”
It remains to be seen whether The Second City Saint will be ready in time for SummerSlam on August 3rd, as fans definitely want to see Punk and McIntyre finally square off against each other.
