Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks during her time in WWE, established herself as a prominent figure in the wrestling world. She became a big name in the company and even got to act in ‘The Mandalorian’ ‘a few years ago as well. With that said, Mone has revealed the restriction WWE imposed on her.
Mercedes Mone notably walked out of WWE in May 2022, alongside Naomi. Her departure was reportedly attributed to creative frustrations and concerns about her position within the women’s division.
While speaking to WFAN, Mercedes Mone was asked if WWE imposed any restrictions on her in her contract. Mercedes Mone explained that coming to AEW was a major decision for her. She mentioned that even filming ‘The Mandalorian’ was a struggle with WWE, requiring significant effort to get time off. She stated that Tony Khan assured her that whatever she needed, including a private jet for travel between LA filming and AEW shows, would be available.
“Oh yes, oh yes. And that’s definitely a big reason why I came to AEW. Even doing ‘The Mandalorian’ was like pulling teeth with WWE to get time off to film that show. So, um, Tony said, ‘Whatever I need, if I need that private jet to go from filming in LA to coming for shows, then it’s available for me.'”
Interestingly enough, Mercedes Mone also stated that she would return to WWE one day but there’s no guarantee that will happen anytime soon. Regardless, Mone is in AEW for the foreseeable future and that’s what matters to her.
