AEW’s introduction to the wrestling scene promised a fresh take on the sport, including a liberal use of profanity, but it seems the company might just be changing their view on that if this week’s Dynamite was anything to go by.

Warner Bros Discovery, the parent company of AEW, appears to have adopted a stricter stance against profanity on their broadcasts. In the past, AEW Dynamite segments often included frequent swearing, but recently, many previously accepted words and phrases are now being censored.

This was very apparent on the June 26 episode of AEW Dynamite, where the likes of MJF faced censorship during his promo. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that something has changed in Warner Bros Discovery when it comes to profanity as they even censored tame words and phrases on Dynamite this week, something that wasn’t the case in the past.

There’s definitely something that’s changed in WBD when it comes to language because they were bleeping tame stuff and they used to let almost everything go. Somebody somewhere has decided that what they were doing before is no longer kosher.”

Even then, AEW remains an edgier product with blood and violence, so we’ll have to wait and see if Warner Bros Discovery will eventually try to crack down on the level of violence as well.
