ECW legend Taz recently called out TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace for using one of his trademarked catchphrases. Grace had tweeted a gym photo with the caption, “Beat me if you can. Survive if I let you,” a phrase Taz has famously trademarked.

Taz pointed out the issue, emphasizing the complexities surrounding trademark use. When a fan defended Grace, noting she wasn’t using the phrase commercially, Taz responded, asking fans to allow him to manage his business affairs.

Grace expressed surprise on social media, acknowledging Taz’s remarks. She noted that quoting legends she admired wasn’t covered in her pro wrestling handbook but promised to be more cautious in the future.

Taz took to his social media platform, X, to explain the situation further. He clarified that while he didn’t know Grace personally, he was simply being protective of his trademarks, which he had invested significant effort and money into protecting. He admitted to being hypersensitive due to past experiences where people profited off his work without permission.

“I don’t known Jordynne Grace, I mean I know who she is. I’m a fan of her work and I don’t have her phone number, she don’t have mine. We don’t follow each other on social media. I was not tagged in the tweet, so I didn’t know she was paying homage to me in the tweet, I didn’t know that. I’ve been burnt before, I’ve had people make money off me and I try to protect all of my trademarks… Some fans think it’s petty to say something, but it’s not, it’s just being protective of stuff you’ve built and it’s not being petty and if you think it’s petty, it might be someone, maybe they had something like that. When you work really hard for something and spend a lot of money to protect it and the way you built, you just don’t give that up and to the contrary, at times I might get hyper sensitive to this yes, am I little gun shy for sure, yes that’s where I came from.”

Taz emphasized that he had no ill will towards Grace and admired her work in TNA. He explained that his reaction stemmed from not being tagged in her tweet, leading him to mistakenly think it was a commercial attempt. Taz expressed hope to meet Grace in the future and laugh about the misunderstanding.

“I have nothing against Jordynee Grace, I’m a fan of her work, it was just maybe me jumping the gun like I said I wasn’t tagged, I didn’t really know if this person was trying to make money off me or make a t-shirt, use a catchphrase, I’m not saying saying she said that. I’m looking forward to, one day, crossing paths with Jordynne, I’m sure we’ll giggle about it and laugh.”

Trademarks are crucial for many, including Taz, which explains his reaction. With the AEW commentator clearing the air, it seems all is well between Taz and Jordynne Grace moving forward.
