Matt Riddle did face controversy during his time in WWE due to issues outside the wrestling ring, which ultimately led to his release from the company. Since then, he has been actively competing in various wrestling promotions. However, he has finally revealed plans related to his MMA return.
In case you didn’t know, Matt Riddle was a star in the UFC during the early to mid-2010s, establishing himself as a legitimate fighter. However, he was eventually fired from the UFC due to his love for marijuana.
While speaking to MuscleManMalcolm, Matt Riddle was asked about his return to the world of MMA. Riddle mentioned that he has talked to several people who run promotions, including combat jiu-jitsu and similar events. He feels that he will likely participate in these sooner rather than later, but it’s a matter of timing. Currently, he remains highly in demand in wrestling, receiving frequent bookings.
The King of Bros acknowledged the risks of injury and the sometimes smaller paydays associated with combat sports. He is weighing his options, noting that professional wrestling still offers him the best opportunities, including good pay and meet-and-greet events. However, he expressed a desire to return to either the ring or the cage, aiming for sometime in 2024 or possibly early 2025.
“I’ve talked to multiple people who run promotions, as well as other things like combat jiu-jitsu. So, I have a feeling I’m going to be doing that sooner rather than later; it’s just a matter of when. Right now, I’m still very in demand in wrestling and getting booked all the time. When it comes to combat sports, you risk a lot of injury and sometimes the pay isn’t the best. For me, I’m trying to weigh out the best options, and right now, pro wrestling is still the best option. I get paid handsomely, I do it well, and I get to do meet and greets and appearances. But I do want to step back into either a ring or a cage. I was hoping to do it in 2024, but maybe early 2025.”
Matt Riddle also unexpectedly wrestled at a birthday party recently. Regardless, we will have to wait and see where he will end up returning to the world of MMA, as fans do want to see him back there.
