WWE Superstars typically enter the prestigious Hall of Fame after they’ve concluded their active careers. However, Rey Mysterio broke this tradition when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023, despite still being an active wrestler.

After a career spanning over three decades, the Legendary Luchador was honored during WrestleMania 39 weekend for his contributions, notably for reviving the Latino World Order.

Initially hesitant to accept the honor because he wasn’t ready to retire from wrestling, Mysterio revealed on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet that Triple H played a key role in persuading him. Triple H assured Mysterio that induction into the Hall of Fame didn’t mean retirement from professional wrestling, ultimately convincing him to embrace this milestone while continuing his active in-ring career.

“So when that was brought up to me, ‘Rey, we want to induct you into the Hall of Fame’ and it was Hunter that mentioned that to me. We were thinking of doing it in LA, it’s so close here to your hometown. And my first response was, but I’m not ready to retire Like, no, no, you don’t have to retire. We just think that it’s the perfect spot to induct you to the Hall of Fame. I was like, wow, I really felt it was just such a cool moment. That was one of my goals and it was on my bucket list.”

The Master of The 619 also revealed why he still continues to wear masks around children. Nevertheless, Mysterio will continue to be an active in-ring competitor for as long as his body allows him and that is all that truly matters to the WWE Hall of Famer.
