CM Punk, sidelined from in-ring action since January due to a triceps injury, has managed to keep himself relevant thanks to his feud with Drew McIntyre. With SummerSlam fast approaching, it appears there is uncertainty over Punk’s in-ring return at SummerSlam.
CM Punk made his return at Clash at The Castle Premium Live Event, where he interfered and cost Drew McIntyre the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match against Damian Priest. Following this, Drew McIntyre utterly annihilated CM Punk on the June 21st edition of Friday Night SmackDown and left him a bloody mess as he was transported to the hospital.
It was evident that WWE wrote Punk off television again so that he could continue his recovery. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that CM Punk’s in-ring return status for SummerSlam is touch-and-go and that his return is not a sure thing.
“It’s touch-and-go about SummerSlam. They’re hoping for SummerSlam. It (the attack on SmackDown) buys them more time. The hope is Punk’s ready for SummerSlam – it was not a sure thing. That’s the big show, that’s where they want it.”
We will have to wait and see whether The Second City Saint will be ready in time for SummerSlam on August 3rd, as fans definitely want to see Punk and McIntyre finally square off against each other.
