AEW is always ready to shock fans whenever possible. A recent rumor about Shane McMahon’s status in the pro wrestling world has opened up numerous possibilities.
There was significant speculation throughout the wrestling community last week regarding the possibility of Shane McMahon appearing in AEW. Tony Khan told Wrestling Observer that he has never had a conversation with or met Shane McMahon. Those we spoke to also confirmed that Shane McMahon hadn’t been discussed at a high level within AEW.
Sean Sapp of Fightful Select reports that Shane’s father, Vince McMahon, told some close to him in WWE that Shane McMahon “would never get another pop in the company again” as long as he was in charge, following a messy Royal Rumble 2022 situation.
Although Shane appeared at WrestleMania last year, he no longer has any contract with WWE, including a talent contract, legends contract, or any similar agreement. He was reportedly featured in WWE 2K24 under a separate agreement.
As Ringside News exclusively reported, Shane was “let go” from WWE after the 2022 Royal Rumble. He was very bossy and wanted to dictate too much, with parts that couldn’t be changed. He also had conflicts regarding the use of stars like Bad Bunny. All this led to Vince pulling Shane, and the Rumble match was booked without him.
Shane McMahon is healthy, as he was recently spotted at a baseball game fully healed. He has continued working out during his recovery, keeping his knee in a brace while focusing on his upper body.
Whether Shane McMahon will end up in AEW remains to be seen. It would be a massive surprise for Tony Khan to pull off. The big question is how he may be used. Given that he hasn’t been under WWE contract for such a long time, many believe it would have happened already if it were going to.
