WWE is an ever-changing company and there are lots of people who eventually get promoted for one reason or the other. In fact, it appears Friday Night SmackDown now has a new head writer.
According to a report by Fightful Select, longtime WWE creative writer John Swikata has been promoted to lead writer for WWE Smackdown as of earlier this week. This was confirmed by multiple sources within the company. Swikata replaced Ryan Callahan, who has parted ways with WWE.
Little is publicly known about Swikata beyond his role as a senior writer with the company. He has not been referenced in articles or interviews, with the only mention of him being a 2014 tweet from Road Dogg. However, it is known that he has been with WWE for several years.
A WWE source indicated that Swikata has already made a significant impact, pointing to the direction seen on the most recent Friday night show.
The June 21st edition of Friday Night SmackDown was one of the most significant episodes in recent memory and even backstage, many felt it was seen as one of the biggest episodes since WrestleMania 40. Regardless, we’ll have to see how Swikata will continue to fare as the new Head Writer in the coming months.
